The skinny: The Little Lions moved to second place in the District 6/9 playoff standings with a dramatic 26-21 victory over Mifflin County last week.
If they want to have a chance at catching leader DuBois, they’re going to have to knock off one of the best teams in the Mid Penn Conference.
The Eagles boast a tough defense, having held opponents to two touchdowns or less in each of their victories.
State College’s rushing defense has struggled at times this season and it will face an excellent one-two punch in tailback Tyler Updegraff and fullback Tyler Heisey.
Updegraff has rushed for 1,053 yards. When he gets the Eagles close, Heisey finishes off the drives. Heisey has rushed for 574 yards and 17 touchdowns. Throw in six touchdowns from Updegraff, and the two have combined for 23 of the Eagles’ 29 rushing scores.
State College lost a 13-point second-half lead last week at Mifflin County, but rallied inside the final two minutes to pull out the victory. Derek Van Horn’s kickoff return to the Mifflin County 49 keyed the Little Lions’ comeback, which finished with quarterback Patrick Irwin’s two-yard run.
Jake Knouse keyed the offense with 81 yards and a touchdown on six carries.
