LEWISBURG — State College’s Bradley Gibble turning in his second high finish in the consolation finals as the Little Lions finished up competition in the PIAA Class AAA Swimming & Diving Championships at Bucknell University.
Gibble, a senior, qualified for the consolation finals in the 100-yard backstroke by finishing 13th in the preliminaries with a time of 51.66 seconds. In the consolations, he improved his time and position by taking 11th in 51.36. Gibble also was ninth on Wednesday in the 200 individual medley.
Gibble’s finish helped the Little Lions place 21st in the boys’ meet with 29 points. La Salle College dominated the meet with 280 points, finishing 78 points ahead of second-place North Allegheny.
State College’s Ian Schrock, Gibble, Matt Fritsch and Carter Hardy placed 18th in the 400 freestyle relay (3:13.30). The Little Lions’ other boys’ finishers were: Schrock (29th, 100 freestyle in 48.17), Will Benner (30th, 500 freestyle in 4:52.59) and Michael Feffer (30th, 100 breaststroke in 1:01.51).

State College’s girls’ team also placed 21st as the Lady Little Lions finished with 32 points. Hershey took the team crown with 279 points, while North Allegheny placed second with 235.
Kirsten Hillsley had the best finish for the Lady Little Lions on Thursday, narrowly missing the consolation finals in the 100 breaststroke. Hillsley placed 17th in 1:06.51.
State College’s 400 freestyle relay team of Hannah Finton, Harly Stuyvesant, Juliet Garrigan and Kate Cooper placed 21st in 3:38.93.
Other State College individual finishers were: Courtney Quinn (24th, 100 backstroke in 58.98) and Juliet Garrigan (31st, 500 freestyle in 5:26.35).
Competition in the Class AA Champiionships begin Friday at Bucknell. Swimmers from Bellefonte and Penns Valley will represent Centre County.
