The State College boys’ track and field team had a banner day Saturday at the 88th annual Jack Roddick Shippensburg University High School Track and Field Invitational.
With four wins and top-10 finishes in nearly every event, the Little Lions ran away with the team title at Seth Grove Stadium, where the PIAA Championships will be held in five weeks. State College finished with 102 points, far ahead of runner-up North Penn’s 74.
The biggest point-grab of the day came in the 800-meter run, with three Little Lions finishing in the top four. Will Cather led the way with a victory in 1 minute, 54.36 seconds. He was followed by Mason Post in second and Chris Golembeski in fourth.
Cather added a third-place effort in the 3,200.

Another big point-earner was Bryce Williams, who took first in the triple jump, covering 47 feet, 5 3/4 inches, and second in the long jump. Kellin Valentine added a sixth-place effort in the triple jump.
Kyle Adams added a win in the 2,000 steeplechase in 6:30.65, and the 1,600 relay team of John Smith, Golembeski, Post and Cather took first in 3:21.96. Adams also took fifth in the 400.
The 3,200 relay team of Anthony Degleris, Eric Heatwole, Nick Feffer and Alex Milligan posted a runner-up finish, and the 400 relay team of Tristan Daman, Max Herbst, Noah Woods and Valentine took seventh.
John Smith added a second-place effort in the 300 hurdles in a school-record time of 38.73 seconds.
