Seventeen Centre County football players will team up to try to lead the North Squad to its second straight win in the Lezzer Lumber Classic when the game kicks off on June 20 at Mansion Park.
State College had five players — quarterback Patrick Irwin, linebackers Ben Roeshot and Zach Damiano and linemen Austin Peck and Jordan Good — selected to the annual all-star game. Bald Eagle Area earned four selections — receivers Bryan and Bryce Greene, running back Dakota Bartley and offensive lineman Tanner Cramer.
Bellefonte and Penns Valley each had three players named to the North roster. The Red Raiders will be represented by linebacker Jacob Martin and linemen Aaron Scott and Matt Querns. Defensive backs Cameron Tobias — who is also listed as a quarterback for the North — and Luke Weaver and running back Taylor Collison will represent the Rams.
Philipsburg-Osceola tight end Curtis Matsko and kicker Nick Boumerhi will also play for the North.
Meanwhile, six local players will serve as alternates for the North. In addition to five players on the 40-man roster, State College has four alternates. Lineman Kyle Maggi, linebacker Mike Hall and defensive backs/receivers Chris Steighman and Anthony Paffie-Misher will be added to the North if other players cannot play.
Tight end/linebacker Jordan Kobularcik is an alternate from BEA and lineman Kevin Butts is an alternate from Penns Valley.
The North will be coached by Clarion’s Larry Wiser. Penns Valley coach Marty Tobias is on the North coaching staff. Mifflin County coach George Miskinis will coach the South.
The North will try to win its second straight Lezzer Lumber Classic, a game co-sponsored by the Centre Daily Times, for the first time since 2009 to 2010. Then, the North held the South to seven points in back-to-back games. Last season, the North won 49-27.
