Carrie Mahon earned a rare honor earlier this week.
The State College senior was named a First-Team All-American and Academic All-American by U.S. Lacrosse. Mahon, who owns most of the Lady Little Lions’ team records, was just one of three players named from the Upper Atlantic/Western Pa. region.
It marks the second straight year Mahon has been named an All-American by U.S. Lacrosse. She was named to the National Tournament team last season following a blistering junior campaign in which she scored a school record 77 goals. In addition, the talented midfielder has been a First-Team Big 12 selection and a Mid-Penn First-Team All-Star the last two seasons.
Mahon scored 67 goals and pitched in 57 assists — another single-season school record — this season. Her 64.4 shooting percentage this season also set a new school record. Mahon also set single-season records this spring for draw controls (111), ground balls (76) and turnovers forced (51).
She will depart State College owning school records for goals (212), assists (126), points (338), draw controls (247), ground balls (207) and turnovers forced (109). Mahon will attend Marquette University where she will join her sister Katie on the women’s lacrosse team.
