Hailee Wingard broke open a scoreless game with 20 minutes remaining as Penns Valley topped Bald Eagle Area 1-0 on Tuesday.
Wingard scored on a deflected shot to end more than 60 minutes of scoreless play. Naomi Olsen-Zelma assisted on the game-winner.
Kylie Orndorf stopped four shots for the Lady Rams (1-1), while Dallis Dillon had nine saves for the Lady Eagles in a contest that was delayed 30 minutes by lightning.
“After a loss on Saturday, the girls came out with much more intensity tonight and did a much better job of passing the ball,” Penns Valley coach Jeff Smucker said. “ Hailee Wingard had a big night in midfield for us and came up with the game-winning goal. We cranked up the hustle a notch in the second half and that helped to make the difference. The defense did a great job to earn a shutout on a very wet and slippery night.”
Never miss a local story.
“The girls played well despite the conditions,” BEA coach Jared Moore said. “... Our goalie Dallis Dillion was solid for us.”
