State College swept the singles matches and that provided the decisive points in a 3-2 victory over Mercyhurst Prep on Saturday morning at the Penn State Tennis Center.
The loss for the Lakers, the two-time defending PIAA Class AA team champions, was their first in a dual meet since 2011.
“This was a nice win for our team,” Lady Little Lions coach Jane Borden said. “The girls played well today competing at a very high level and showing that they can compete with some of the best tennis players in the state. We will continue to look to improve throughout the remainder of the season.”
Yvonne Peters-Washington and Lilijana Peters-Semak each won their singles matches in straight sets, while Cathy Badding needed three sets to drop Anna Burns 6-2, 0-6, 6-4 to lock up the win.
