Rolling off wins in eight of the first nine contested bouts, the Bellefonte wrestling team dropped Clearfield 34-18 Tuesday night to give coach Mike Maney his 100th career win.
The former PIAA champion as part of Bald Eagle Area’s national championship team in 1999 has picked up his coaching wins at Philipsburg-Osceola and Bellefonte during his career.
With the match starting at 106 pounds, the Red Raiders (9-3) took a lead it would never lose with Shafiq Blake’s 4-3 decision over Matt Ryan. Following a double forfeit, decision wins came from Aaron Witherite (120) and Luke Leathers (126) before Brock Port (132) earned a major decision. Following a Bison victory, more wins came from Chase Gardner (pin, 145), Nathan Rosenberger (152, decision), Zach Musser (160, decision) and Dillon Kephart (170, pin). Tim Benford posted the final Raider win with a decision at 220.
