Hayley Giedroc’s leadoff double turned into a run for the Bald Eagle Area softball team, giving the Lady Eagles a lead they would not relinquish in a 3-2 victory over Punxsutawney on Monday.
The only other runs were scored in the fourth inning when both teams brought in two runs. Marissa Tobias and Megan Kresovich also had an RBI each for the Lady Eagles (9-2).
“Punxsutawney had a good pitcher who kept us off balance,” BEA coach Curt Heverly said. “Thankfully we got good feet on bases.
“We played pretty solid defense and that’s important to us.”
The BEA defense played error free behind winning pitcher Sidney Shultz, who allowed two runs, three walks, three hits and had two strikeouts. Moreta Dyke came in for the save in the sixth inning.
BEA will get a rematch with Philipsburg-Osceola on Tuesday. The Lady Mounties won last week’s contest between the rivals.
