The Penns Valley girls’ soccer team fell 3-1 to Richland in the quarterfinals of the District 6 Class A tournament Tuesday.
The loss puts an end to Penns Valley’s season. The team finished with a 10-7-1 record.
Richland jumped out to a 3-0 lead early in the first half, with goals by Emily Hill, Alison Mattes and Morgan Puruczky coming in a span of less than seven minutes.
“The game was really a tale of two halves,” Penns Valley coach Jeff Smucker said.
Never miss a local story.
Hailee Wingard scored the Lady Rams’ lone goal.
Smucker said that he tried to keep his team settled after falling behind by three goals. The team responded, keeping Richland off the board for the remainder of the game while controlling play in the second half.
Smucker felt that his team had difficulties passing the ball effectively during the first half, but that it improved during the second.
“We had the wind at our backs in the second half,” Smucker said, “and it was a completely different game.”
