Two members of the Penn State women’s soccer team have been named to the final roster of the U.S. national under-20 team for the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Sophomore Brittany Bassinger and freshman Rose Chandler both made the roster, announced Thursday. The team is coached by Michelle French, with Nittany Lion head coach Erica Walsh serving as an assistant coach. The team has been training in Seattle.
The U-20 World Cup will be held in Canada from Aug. 5-20, with the U.S. opening against Germany on Aug. 5 in Edmonton, Alberta.
Chandler is making her first appearance with the U.S. U-20 team, while Bassinger was a member of the team last year, helping the team win the CONCECAF regional championship to earn a spot at the World Cup. That team was coached by Walsh.
Never miss a local story.
“Representing the USA on the soccer field means (so) much to me,” Basinger said. “To be able to step out on the field in a USA jersey while our national anthem is playing is a tremendous honor and something that will never get old.”
