STATE COLLEGE — A pair of Pittsburgh Steelers will lend a hand in opening the season for the State College Spikes with appearances during the opening weekend of the season.
Steelers rookie offensive lineman and Penn State product A.Q. Shipley will be on hand for opening night June 19 when the Spikes host the Williamsport Cross-cutters. Shipley will sign autographs from 5:30 p.m., when the stadium gates open, until 6:15 p.m., then throw out the honorary first pitch of the season.
Fullback Carey Davis, who helped the team to its sixth Super Bowl title in February, will be on hand for the June 21 contest against Williamsport, also throwing out the first pitch, signing autographs during the game and singing “Take Me Out to the Ball-game” during the seventh inning stretch.
