From CDT staff Reports
BELGRADE, Serbia — Penn State guard Talor Battle scored five points and made a key assist down the stretch to help the U.S. World University Games basketball team take down Russia 67-63 Monday in the Serbia International Invitational.
Battle also had two steals and two assists — half the team’s total. He found North Carolina’s Deon Thompson, who scored 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds, inside for a basket with 1:55 left to give the U.S. at 62-61 lead.
Battle later hit 1 of 2 free throws with 5.7 seconds left to help put the game away. Villanova’s Corey Fisher led the American team with 15 points.
The team next plays Friday against Finland in its first contest in the World University Games in Serbia.
FOOTBALL
Student section sold out for fall
UNIVERSITY PARK — The nation’s largest full-season college football student section again will be at capacity this fall.
More than 21,000 students purchased season tickets last week. The sale for each class took place on its own designated day, with 90 percent of the tickets for each class sold within the first 15 minutes of each sale. Every student who pre-registered and participated in the posted sale hours for their class was able to purchase a ticket, according to Greg Myford, Associate Athletic Director for Business Relations and Communications. The Nittany Lions’ season opens Sept. 5 against Akron.
