closeSPRING MILLS — Matt Smith fired a six-hitter as Spring Mills knocked off Howard 4-1 in Centre County Baseball League play on Wednesday.
Smith struck out 10, allowing just a sixth-inning run to the Hawks (14-8).
Andy Leakey and Aaron Neideigh had three singles each to pace the Braves’ 11-hit attack. Mike Vogt had a sacrifice fly in the first and Leakey added an RBI single in the second as Spring Mills (9-11) took a 2-0 lead. Vogt and Leakey also had RBI singles in a two-run fourth.
Travis Fisher and George Conklin each had two singles for Howard.
Clarence 10, Bellefonte Brewers 4
BELLEFONTE — Clarence pounded out 16 hits as the Mounties won their regular-season finale against the Bellefonte Brewers.
Hunter Guenot and Brad Young (double) each had three hits for Clarence (18-4).
With the score already 4-0, Brian Kochik and Dave Urbanik had RBI singled in the fourth. Guenot and Kyle Gavlock added RBI singles in a three-run fifth that pushed the lead to 9-0.
Kochik tossed a six-hitter, with no walks and six strikeouts. John Schall,Kochik and Urbanik had two hits each.
Bill Seedersbelteda solo home run for the Brewers (11-1).
Blanchard 4, Governors 3 (8)
BLANCHARD — Josh Bechdel’s double scored Brett Hegganstaller in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Bees the win.
Bechdel had three hits for Blanchard (10-9), which got two hits apiece from Hegganstaller, Brian Nestor and James Gallagher. Liel Karstetter picked up the win.
Cody Young had three hits, including a triple, for the Govenors (8-11).
Philipsburg 11, Unionville 1
UNIONVILLE — The Pirates hit three home runs during a six-run first inning and cruised to an easy victory.
Tyler Good, Alex Hetrick and Jeff Winters all connected for two-run homers in the top of the first inning. Jeremy Potter added a solo shot in the fifth.
Scott Furacollected three hits for Unionville, which fell to 5-17.
