Central Mountain set to visit Memorial Field

The State College football team will begin the District 6-8-9-10 Class AAAA playoffs at 7 p.m. Friday against Central Mountain at Memorial Field.
The Little Lions (8-2) captured the top seed for the four-team tournament by defeating Chambers-burg 46-14 last Friday. Central Mountain (6-4) dropped to the fourth seed despite defeating Class AA Penns Valley in its regular- season finale. DuBois (5-5) jumped Central Mountain in the points standing by defeating Class AAA Hollidaysburg. The Beavers face second-seeded Erie McDowell (7-2) in the other semifinal at 1 p.m. Saturday at Edinboro.
The winners will meet at 1 p.m. Nov. 21 at DuBois’ Mansell Stadium. The sub-regional champion receives Thanksgiving week off before facing the WPIAL champion the first weekend of December. State College defeated McDowell in last year’s final. The Little Lions opened the 2008 playoffs with a 23-0 victory over Central Mountain at Memorial Field.
State College is the lone Centre County team to qualify for the postseason.
The District 6 Class AA playoffs also begin this weekend. Friday’s games include Central Cambria (5-5) at top-seeded Forest Hills (10-0) and Penn Cambria (6-4) at second-seeded Central (9-1). Huntingdon (7-3) visits Richland (8-2) and third-seeded Tyrone (8-2) plays host to Ligonier Valley (7-3) on Saturday night. Semifinal games are scheduled for Nov. 21 and 22.
The Class AAA final between Johnstown (7-3) and Hollidaysburg (4-6) is scheduled for Nov. 21 at Mansion Park. The Trojans and Golden Tigers were the lone teams to enter the Class AAA tournament.
