ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The Penn State women's soccer defeated Michigan 2-0 on Sunday to secure the Big Ten championship outright.
It is the 12th straight league title for the No. 22 Nittany Lions (12-5-3, 8-1-1 Big Ten), who extended their unbeaten streak to nine games.
Katie Schoepferand Jackie Molindascored goals on assists fromJess Rosenbluthand Nikki Wattsfor Penn State, which held a 9-0 edge in shots on goal over the Wolverines (6-9-5, 1-4-5).
The Nittany Lions are in strong position to host first and second round games in the upcoming NCAA tournament. The pairings will be announced tonight.

Lions score three singles wins
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Penn State’s Lauren McCarthy, Kristin Roth and Amy Simidian recorded singles victories for Penn State as the Purdue Invitational wrapped up on Sunday.
Simidian handed Bhavani Tirumurti of Purdue a 6-4, 6-3 defeat while McCarthy downed Marquette’s Olga Fischer 6-0, 3-6, 1-0 (8) and Roth topped Purdue’s Remi Martin 6-3, 6-1.
In other singles action, the Nittany Lions’Maria Prishlyakfell to Anya Dushkina of Marquette, 6-4, 6-0 and Marquette’s Christina Ruiz defeated Allie Hefter6-1, 6-0.
FIELD HOCKEY
EAST LANSING, Mich. — Penn State's Amy Bonenberger and Ali Meves were named to the Big Ten All-Tournament team on Sunday.
Bonenberger, a senior, assisted on both goals during the Nittany Lions' 2-1 upset over 12th ranked Ohio State on Thursday while Meves finished with eight total saves.
It marks the second Big Ten All-Tournament honor for Bonenberger, who was also named to the 2007 team.
