COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Bald Eagle Area standout Quentin Wright will spend part of his summer in Turkey.
The two-time PIAA Class AAA champion earned a spot on this summer’s United States junior world team by winning this past weekend’s FILA junior freestyle trials at the Olympic Training Center.
Wright captured his series over Andrew Howe 2-0. Wright pinned Howe in 1:40 and defeated him 1-0, 0-1, 4-3.
Wright will be the United States’ 163-pounder when the FILA junior world championships begin in Istanbul on July 29. Wright earned an automatic spot in this past weekend’s final by winning a FILA junior national title earlier this month in Las Vegas.
One of Wright’s future Penn State teammates also won his weight this past weekend. Sophomore Brad Pataky won his series over Michael Martinez 2-0 in the university freestyle division at 121 pounds. Pataky won by scores of 2-0, 5-2 and 2-2, 4-2. Pataky, who is scheduled to participate in the Olympic Trials this spring, qualified for the world university championships which begin July 9 in Tessaloniki, Greece.
Former Penn State NCAA finalist Aaron Anspach lost his series to Tervel Dlagnev 2-0 in the 264.5-pound university division. Penn State’s Desmond Moore lost his series to Mark Rappo, a PIAA Class AAA champion from Council Rock South, 2-0 in the 110-pound junior freestyle final while Central Mountain star Dylan Alton lost his series to Tyler Graff 2-0 in the 132-pound junior freestyle final.
