On Oct. 6, 1967, most of Centre County was plunged into a mid-afternoon blackout due to an unexplained power failure. The only districts unaffected were the Philipsburg-Snow Shoe area and portions of Penn State’s campus.

On Oct. 1, 1992, employees at Madera County National Bank in Clearfield told police that two robbers — one wearing a gorilla costume and the other a wild boar mask — entered the bank with a sawed off 12-gauge shotgun and a small automatic handgun. The duo escaped the bank with an undetermined amount of cash in a white van with a Teddy bear and stork mural painted on the side.

In October 2007, Restek Corp., a chromatography manufacturing company in Bellefonte, was named one of 15 Top Small Workplaces in the U.S. in a report by the Wall Street Journal and Winning Workplaces. Minitab Inc., a software development company in Ferguson Township, was named one of 35 finalists.
