Death's Sonnet

Death comes knocking at the old man’s white door.

The man is unprepared to accept him.

He does not answer, but lies on the floor.

Forceful rapping grows loud; all seems so grim.

Fear encases the depths of the man’s soul.

He’s not ready to leave heartache behind.

Pain and suffering will soon take it’s toll.

Images of loved ones flash through his mind.

Indecisiveness washes over you.

The reaper’s knife slashes straight through the door.

Death’s eternal grip yearns to capture you.

The man’s tears and regrets left on the floor.

The man embraced death who was not a foe.

It was his time to leave this world and go.
