THE MAN IN MY MIRROR

By Dan Stern

THERE’S A STRANGER WHO LIVES IN MY BATHROOM.

HIS HOME IS RIGHT OVER MY SINK.

I SEE HIM WHENEVER I’M SHAVING

OR FILLING MY GLASS FOR A DRINK.

HE ALWAYS STARES BACK WHEN I SEE HIM.

IT’S AS THOUGH HE CAN ALMOST LOOK THROUGH ME.

HIS FACE DOES LOOK SLIGHTLY FAMILIAR,

BUT NO RECOGNITION COME TO ME.

IN HIS FACE YOU’LL SEE WRINKLES AND RUTS.

YOU’LL SEE SCARS THAT JUST DON’T SEEM TO STOP,

AND HIS HAIR, WHICH AT ONE TIME HAD FULLNESS,

IS NOW JUST A GRAY PATCH ON TOP.

WHEN YOU LOOK AT THIS STRANGER IN MY MIRROR,

WHO NOW LOOKS SO MUCH DIFFERENT TO ME,

PLEASE REMEMBER THAT HE’S STILL THE SAME PERSON,

AND DON’T JUDGE HIM BY WHAT YOU NOW SEE!
