Good Life

Remember

I remember -

Father returning from the snow-clad wood

With a fresh-cut evergreen that soon stood

In the corner of our living room I remember -

Mother going to the cool attic for

All the Christmas trimmings that were in store

To decorate the evergreen in our living room I remember -

Hanging the balls that were shining and bright

And stringing garlands of popcorn of pink and white

For the evergreen in our living room I remember -

Putting popcorn balls and sweet candy canes,

Long strings of colored paper chains

On limbs of the evergreen in our living room. I remember -

Dad arranging the silvery icicles, shimmering in the light

Placing on the tree top the beautiful agnel in satiny white

Carefully on the evergreen in our living room I remember -

The tiny Nativity scene, with baby Jesus lying there

How beautiful! Despite the fact or being nearly bare

That mother placed near the evergreen in our living room I remember -

Grandfather’s visits and the gifts he would bring

And always a song or two he would sing

By the evergreen in our living room I remember -

The happy times our friends and family shared

And for the love shown and how each one cared

As we gathered ‘round the evergreen in our living room. I remember -

And think how nice it would be

To turn back time and once more see

Cherished moments around the evergreen in our living room.
