Recycling | Centre County groups receive state Waste Watcher awards

I would like to use this month’s column to recognize the Centre County businesses, schools and organizations that were recently distinguished with a Pennsylvania Waste Watcher Award.

The Pennsylvania Waste Watcher Award recognizes recycling, waste reduction, reuse and composting programs in Pennsylvania that have exhibited exemplary performance.

The Waste Watcher program is sponsored by the Professional Recyclers of Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania’s statewide recycling organization and the Keystone Chapter of the Solid Waste Association of North America.

This year, 76 municipalities, counties, private businesses, individuals and community organizations from throughout Pennsylvania are being recognized. Of the 76 Waste Watcher awardees, 19 are located right here in Centre County.

The Centre County Recycling & Refuse Authority would like to congratulate all those listed below for exhibiting extraordinary performance and going above and beyond the recycling and waste reduction call of duty. They will receive an award plaque later this fall.

The Centre County winners are Autoport Restaurant, Centre County Recycling & Refuse Authority, Columbia Gas of PA Inc., Corl Street Elementary School, Foxdale Village, Gray’s Woods Elementary, Harris Township Memorial Day Festival, Harrison’s Wine Grill & Catering, Mount Nittany Middle School, Park Forest Elementary School, PSU School of Hospitality Management, Restek Corp., State College Friends School, State College Spikes, The Art Alliance of Central PA, the borough of State College, the Centre County Grange Encampment and Fair, the Prom Attire Event, and Village Eatinghouse.

Centre County has many other businesses, schools and organizations worthy of such an award. To nominate your business or organization, please contact me at, and I will make sure you receive an application. To see the list of winners from across the state, visit
