State College Elks Lodge officers took first place in two areas at the Elks North Central District Ritual competition held at Lock Haven Lodge # 172. Exalted Ruler Jeff Kephart took First Place in the 11 O’clock Toast competition. Leading Knight Chris Carver finished in first place in the U.S. Flag Charge competition. They will both represent the Elks North Central District at the Elks State Competition in May.

The Bellefonte Elks Lodge # 1094 recognizes students from Bellefonte and Bald Eagle Area high schools with its Student of the Month program. Nominees are judged on the basis of character, leadership, service, and citizenship. Winners from the 2014-15 school year-to-date are:

September: Ashley Morris, of BAHS, daughter of Christine and Steve Morris;

Jessie Jenkins, of BEAHS, daughter of Laurie and Jeffrey Jenkins;

October: Devin Walk, of BAHS, son of Amy and Howard Walk;

Meghan Shiels, of BEAHS, daughter of Roxanne and Andy Shiels;

November: Matthew Modricker, of BAHS, son of Tami Barnes and David Modricker;

Nicole Bonsell, of BEAHS, daughter of Jack and Shirley Bonsell;

December: Christina Dunklebarger, of BAHS, daughter of Hazel and Walter Dunklebarger;

Mitchell McCurdy, of BEAHS, son of Stacy and Troy McCurdy

Aaron McKnight, of Philipsburg, has received the Angle-Feeser Family Scholarship to attend Shippensburg University. McKnight is a junior, majoring in biology with a concentration in health professions. He is a 2012 graduate of Philipsburg-Osceola Area High School.

Christy Murray, a student at South Hills School of Business and Technology, was awarded an honorary scholarship by the American Society of Echocardiography. The scholarship is given annually to a select group of diagnostic medical sonography students from across the country for exhibiting a passion for the discipline for demonstrating leadership abilities within echocardiography field.

Murray, of Slippery Rock, is enrolled in the diagnostic medical sonography professional plus program at South Hills where she has maintained dean’s list-status for the duration of her training. She is currently fulfilling her cardiac ultrasound internship requirements at the Milton Hershey Medical Center in Hershey.
