INDIANAPOLIS — Jamelle Cornley scored 22 points and Stanley Pringle added 16 as Penn State beat Indiana 66-51 Thursday in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament.
The Nittany Lions (22-10), the tournament's sixth seed, advance to meet third-seeded Purdue (22-9) in Friday's 9 p.m. quarterfinal game. The teams split the regular season series 1-1.
Penn State led by 13 points at the half and by as many as 25 points in the second half. Verdell Jones III led the Hoosiers (6-25), who were without leading scorer Devan Dumes, with 23 points.
In Thursday's earlier tournament action, No. 8 Minnesota beat No. 9 Northwestern 66-53 and No. 7 Michigan beat No. 10 Iowa 73-45.
