Bear spends time up tree in State College; photos show Boalsburg, Lemont visits

STATE COLLEGE — Continuing a string of black bear sightings in the borough and surrounding areas, police were called Monday night about a bear up a tree.

The bear, estimated at about 350 pounds, stayed up a tree for about three hours in the 200 block of East Highland Avenue, according to borough police.

Left alone, the bear eventually left the area, police said.

Sunday morning, a black bear weighing 400 pounds or more strolled through Lemont and took a swim in Spring Creek.

Earlier today, a Web reader alerted everyone to a sighting of the Happy Valley bear this morning on Penn State's campus.

It was at 6 a.m. behind Beaver Stadium, according to one of today's posts.

Meanwhile, reader Lori Haberstroh has shared photos of the bear's stop in Boalsburg on Mother's Day. Those photos are posted here along with photos submitted yesterday by reader Melissa Garvin from the bear's visit and swim in Lemont.
