Trucking accident closes Interstate 80

A truck driver was airlifted to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville after his tractor-trailer fell on him near mile marker 166 of Interstate 80, state police at Rockview said.

Bob Hirsh, 57, of Horn Lake, Miss., had crawled underneath the tractor-trailer to inspect possible causes of mechanical problems when the truck fell, police said. Hirsh was pinned under the vehicle until fire and rescue personnel arrived to extricate him, police said.

All eastbound lanes of the interstate were closed for about an hour five miles east of the Bellefonte exit to allow an emergency helicopter to transport the man.

Bellefonte and Milesburg fire companies, Medic 24 and Bellefonte and Snow Shoe EMS assisted state police at the scene.
