State Police at Rockview say a man was assaulted late Friday night while walking along state Route 144 about two-tenths of a mile north of Gum Stump Road.

The victim is a 30-year-old white man whom police did not further identify.

The man was walking south on Route 144 at about 11:30 p.m. Friday when he encountered a person walking north. The person grabbed him and threw him over the guardrail, police said.

He rolled down a hillside and into a creek.
