14 people want to serve on school board

STATE COLLEGE — Serving on the school board has turned out to be a popular job in State College. State College Area School District confirmed on Monday that 14 people have submitted applications to be the ninth member of the school board.

Bernard Cantorna, Cathy Dauler, Mary Dupuis, Timothy Eden, Nancy Kranich, Jim Leous, Ron Madrid, William Moyer, James Pawelczyk, Jillian Reese, Ron Servello, Sarah Judith Stager, Eric Topp and Laurel Zydney are all in the running.

The deadline to submit applications ended at noon Monday, and the remaining eight members must fill the seat by March 13. Board members have scheduled a special meeting on Feb. 18 with the intentions of bringing a list of criteria they’d like to see in the next board member.

Board President Rick Madore said he expected a final vote on March 3 to fill the vacancy.

A seat opened last month when Barney Grimes resigned due to a federal job opportunity overseas.
