State College borough launches online town hall to spur discourse

State College Borough on Thursday launched an online forum for civil engagement.

Called Engage State College, the forum invites residents to provide input on various community activities and issues, and support what others are saying on those topics. Borough officials will review the statements and consider them while making decisions, according to staff.

The first forum is related to the design of the downtown master plan, for which meetings will be held next week. The question asks residents, “If you could change something about downtown State College, what would you change and why?” Feedback will be incorporated into the coming planning sessions.

Commenters so far have offered thoughts on social change, better developing relationships between State College and Penn State, sidewalk improvements and working space downtown for young professionals.

Engage State College is on the borough’s website, at Those with questions can call the Planning Department at 234-7109.
