Rescue crews searched Thursday into the early morning hours Friday before breaking. They resumed later in the morning and continued until 7:30 p.m. Friday, when the search was called off for good.
Water rescue crews from Allegheny and Cambria counties combed through the muddy waters Friday looking for the man.
The storm whose flooding swept away Rupert dropped 5 to 7 inches of rain in an hour. Floods ravaged roads around Beech Creek, closing state Route 150 north of town and even causing a Norfolk Southern train to stop because of washed out tracks near Blanchard in Centre County.
