Power outages reported as thunderstorms move through region

Almost 3,000 customers in State College are without power due to severe weather as thunderstorms push through the region.

West Penn Power is reporting the outages on its website. Traffic signals are reportedly without power in downtown State College, according to scanner reports.

A severe thunderstorm warning was in effect for Centre County until 8:30 p.m. The storm is capable of producing destructive winds in excess of 70 mph, according to the National Weather Service in State College.

A flash flood warning is also in effect until 10:30 p.m. due to heavy downpours.

One inch of rain had reportedly fallen at the Walker Building on the Penn State campus in a short period of time. The NWS said urban flooding could begin shortly.
