The Centre Region’s newest Sheetz renovation at 1781 N. Atherton St. is expected to open by the first week of September, company officials said Tuesday.
Steve Augustine, Sheetz’s director of real estate, said the expected date to open is Sept. 5. Sheetz spokeswoman Monica Jones added that while that date is tentative, construction is on schedule.
“We’re on schedule for construction to be complete by the end of August and open to the public within a week to 10 days after that,” Jones said.
The Sheetz store will be an upgrade to the original building that was at the same location, Jones said.

Jones said construction workers demolished the original building and reconstructed a new Sheetz that is triple in size, and includes indoor and outdoor seating, a bigger kitchen, new equipment and a larger parking lot.
Augustine said concrete has been poured, and brick and stone has been placed on the building, which is complete.
“I think there are a few odds and ends we need to take care of,” Augustine said. “Once that’s complete, everything will be cleaned, landscaping will be done and the food people will come in to stock the store.”
Jones added that between 35 and 40 people would be employed at the new Sheetz who are already employed with the company. She said when the original building was demolished, those original employees were dispersed to other Sheetz locations in the area.
