Bellefonte Area High School on Thursday will host Rachel’s Challenge, a non-profit organization that helps students and adults learn to combat bullying and create a “culture of kindness and compassion.”
The program was started by the parents of a student who died in the Columbine High School shooting in 1999.
The high school will hold assemblies for students in grades seven through 12 during the day Thursday, and a community event will take place at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium.
The program is recommended for students in sixth grade and above, and is sponsored by the Jeremy Herbstritt Foundation. Herbstritt, a Bellefonte graduate, was killed in the 2007 Virginia Tech shooting.
