After an overflow of attendees forced the Bellefonte Borough Council to delay a vote on the demolition of the Garman Theatre, borough officials have announced a make-up meeting.
The council will come together at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Lambert Hall in Bellefonte, specifically to vote on the demolition request. Developer Ara Kervandjian is asking for permission to raze the Garman and the Hotel Do De to combine both buildings with the nearby Cadillac Building to create 32 units of workforce housing apartments.
The Bellefonte Historical Architecture Review Board passed a motion 3-2 last week to recommend council approve the demolition request.
Members of the Bellefonte Historical and Cultural Association are still hoping to save the Garman and turn it into a regional arts center.
Though the meeting is on Veterans Day, borough Manager Ralph Stewart said the evening start time shouldn’t affect anyone’s holiday plans.
