Slick roads to blame in two weekend crashes

Slippery road conditions were to blame for at least two accidents Saturday.

Slick roads and faulty tires were the cause of a rollover accident on the Tyrone Pike in Rush Township late Saturday night, according to state police in Philipsburg.

Robert W. Boyer, 31, of Tyrone, was driving his 2005 Ford Escape SUV at 10:25 p.m. when he lost control on a slippery portion of the road. The SUV went off the right side of the road on a right curve near Fire Tower Road, police said. He hit an embankment and flipped the car.

Boyer wasn’t injured, police said, but he was charged with not having proper tire equipment and traction surface.

Also Saturday, A New Jersey woman was injured in a three-car accident on Interstate 80 near Snow Shoe, state police at Rockview said. Ashley Morgan, 18, was taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center after her car slid on the highway at about 6 p.m. and was struck head-on by another car, then careened and hit a tractor-trailer that was stuck in a ditch, police said.

The other drivers were not injured.
