Share our heritage | Lemont baseball team

Each Monday, the Centre Daily Times will publish an installment in our “Share our Heritage” series, featuring photos from Centre County’s past. Today’s photo is from Garry L. Williams, of Lemont.

Williams wrote: “My brother, Sanford A. Williams, has this photo of the Lemont baseball team taken sometime around the mid-1930s. The Lemont baseball field was along Pike Street in Lemont.

“Our dad, Elwood G. Williams Sr., is in the second row, second from the right. Dad was born in Lemont and was a lifelong resident of the village.

“He went on to serve in local government, elected as a College Township supervisor, the township’s roadmaster and later as the township’s first manager retiring in 1982 after 36 years of service.

“I am wondering if anyone can identify other members of the team and can date this photo.”

Anyone who has any information about the photo can share it with the CDT and we will pass it along to Williams.

Readers can contribute to the “Share our Heritage” series by sharing their own photos. Just drop off or mail copies of the photos to Centre Daily Times, 3400 E.
