The State College Area School District has an offer on the table for its College Heights school property.

District officials said in a statement Friday they are informing the borough of the offer because the municipality has a right of first refusal on all district-owned property in the borough.

Officials said the school board is expected to take action on the offer at a regular public meeting after the borough responds.

The building currently houses the district’s printing services and curriculum offices, but those are expected to be moved to another facility, and officials say they no longer have use for the College Heights property.

A district spokesperson directed questions to solicitor Scott Etter, who did not respond to messages Friday evening.

While the building was not listed as for sale, the district has received “periodic inquiries from prospective purchasers and provided tours to some of them when requested to do so,” according to the statement.

The offer is the first that has been made for the property.

The former school building, located on 721 N. Atherton St., hasn’t been used as an elementary school since 1971.

Officials previously discussed the possibility of selling the building and moving the services it houses into the Panorama Village school near Boalsburg, which became vacant when the district opened Mount Nittany Elementary School.

The Panorama building has been renovated to house the services now in the College Heights building.

“Since the district has determined the (College Heights) building is not needed for current operations, and it is not expected to be needed for any future operations, the board has made the fiscally responsible decision by proceeding with this offer,” officials said in a statement.

Officials said proceeds from the sale will be used for other capital needs.
