Bundle up: Frigid temperatures to remain until February

The recent burst of frigid weather won’t last forever, but it is expected to last until February.

Centre County residents awoke to below-zero temperatures Wednesday morning and will do the same for the next 10 days.

It was so cold Wednesday morning that many county public and private schools got off to delayed starts. Two-hour delays were posted for Bellefonte Area, Bald Eagle Area, State College Area and Philipsburg-Osceola Area school districts.

On Thursday, a light dusting of snow is expected, with a daytime high of 17 and an overnight low of 5 degrees. Temperatures are expected to stay below freezing through the rest of the month.

Friday’s highs are forecast at 17 with a low of 13; Saturday will reach 28 with a low of 6; and Sunday’s high will be 13 with a low of 8 degrees, according to AccuWeather.

On Feb. 1, the mercury finally is expected to climb into the 40s.

The average high temperature for January is 34 degrees, and the average low is 20, according to AccuWeather.
