A group of Penn State students will protest in front of Dick’s Sporting Goods in the Colonnade shopping center Saturday.
The group, part of United Students Against Sweatshops, is protesting VF Corp., which is the parent company of North Face apparel, “to take responsibility for worker safety in Bangladesh and sign the Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh.”
According to the news release, a 2010 fire in a VF apparel factory killed 29 workers and injured more than 100, and VF has not signed the accord.
Dick’s is one of many retailers to sell the merchandise. The student group wants to pressure Dick’s to stop purchasing North Face products to pressure VF to sign the accord, according to a group news release.
