Two women were taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center after a three-vehicle crash Thursday in Taylor Township.

State police at Philipsburg said Dennis Smith Jr., 27, of Bellefonte, was driving a 2012 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter on South Eagle Valley Road when he failed to notice that a vehicle was stopped ahead of him waiting to turn left into the driveway of 10052 S. Eagle Valley Road.

Smith’s vehicle crashed into the back of a 2004 Hyundai Elantra driven by Theresa Layton, 32, of Port Matilda, which caused the Elantra to spin into the opposite lane. Layton’s vehicle was struck on the driver’s side by a 2011 Dodge Avenger driven by Chastity Murray, 34, of Tyrone.

Layton and Murray had to be freed from their vehicles with help from Port Matilda and Bald Eagle fire companies. Both suffered moderate injuries, police said, and were taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center.
