A woman was injured and a home damaged when an SUV crashed into a house Wednesday on Rattlesnake Pike outside Union Township.

State police at the scene said the driver became distracted and her vehicle drifted off the road. When she tried to steer back onto the roadway, she over-corrected and her vehicle slammed into the house.

Property owners Lala and Tom Lindsey were home at the time, but escaped injured.

They described an “awful noise” when the car struck.

“If felt like it was a bolt of thunder and something struck the house,” Lala Lindsey said. “It was an awful noise. The house shook.”

Linsdey said she did not know Wednesday whether the house had sustained serious structural damage.

A hole was visible in the siding when a tow truck pulled the SUV away.

“They go through here pretty fast,” Lindsey said of traffic on the rural road. “But you never expect anything like this.”

Police said the driver of the SUV was taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center for treatment of what a trooper described as moderate injuries.

Police didn’t release additional information Wednesday.
