Each Monday, the Centre Daily Times will publish an installment in our “Share our Heritage” series, featuring photos from Centre County’s past.

Today’s photo is from Judy Stiver Watson.

Watson wrote: “This picture is of the N.R. and Blanche Stiver family in 1931. It was taken for campaign purposes, as my grandfather Stiver was running for register in Centre County, and the picture, along with several sentences by him stating why he should be elected, were printed in the newspaper.

“He states that ‘all my life I have been a native of Centre County, a heavy tax payer, an employee as clerk for the P.R.R. Co., for the past 24 years of continuous service, which duties are exacting and extremely accurate. This expertise together with my earlier qualifications as a public school teacher, qualifies me for the duties of register for Centre County. I have been a regular Republican all my life.’

“He lost the election,” she wrote.

“At the time of the picture, they were all single and living at home,” Watson wrote.
