A tractor-trailer driver was cited Thursday for turning movements and required signals after striking a stop sign at the intersection of West Calder Way and South Barnard Street, according to police.
A witness said the truck turned left from Barnard to Calder but was not able to make the turn, running over the stop sign then continuing on to South Atherton Street.
The driver, identified as Earl Carper, of Tyrone, called to report striking the sign earlier in the morning, saying he was directed by his supervisor to turn left at that intersection.
After striking the sign with the rear wheels of the vehicle, he realized his personal cellphone was not with him. He parked the truck at the appropriate site, then took a second vehicle to his personal vehicle where he retrieved his phone and reported the accident.
