Va. man allegedly leads police on chase from Centre to Blair counties

A Virginia man is in Centre County Prison after he allegedly led police on a two-county chase Saturday afternoon.

State police at Philipsburg said Joseph Labianca, 21, of Stuarts Draft, Va., was driving 103 mph on Interstate 99 in Taylor Township Police said Labianca fled when police attempted to pull him over.

He eventually exited the highway in Tyrone and took state Route 453 toward U.S. Route 220. Police said Labianca continued on Route 220 toward the Tyrone Amtrak station. His vehicle, as well as a police car, became stuck on the railroad tracks.

When he left the vehicle, police said they discovered his 23-year-old sister and 3-year-old nephew were also in the car. While police were investigating, a train struck both vehicles, causing severe damage. Labianca and his passengers had been moved out of harm’s way, police said.
