Rape charges bound for trial in Ferguson Township incident

A Washington, D.C., man charged with rape will face trial in Centre County.

David L. Janifer, 21, is charged with felony counts of rape, sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault and robbery, plus misdemeanor charges of simple assault, indecent assault, theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property.

District Judge Carmine Prestia bound Janifer over for trial after a preliminary hearing Wednesday.

Ferguson Township police said the incident occurred Aug. 27, when they responded to an apartment on Blue Course Drive, finding overturned furniture, a chunk of the alleged victim’s hair on the floor and her broken fingernail on the ground.

The woman said Janifer came over for dinner but became angry and left. When he returned to the apartment, an argument occurred, according to police. The victim asked him to leave, but said he raped and assaulted her instead.

Janifer was found in his apartment in another building. According to police, when asked if he thought he had done anything wrong, Janifer said “he should not have had sex with her because it looks like he raped her.”

Janifer is free on $100,000 bail.
