Hundreds of walkers from local family and workplace teams showed up in force for the 16th annual Centre County Heart and Stroke Walk.
The walk through the Millbrook Marsh Nature Center drew about 430 participants, nearly double compared to the previous year’s walk.
“We were very happy with the turnout, and it was a beautiful day for the walk,” said Larissa Bedrick, the director of communications for the American Heart Association.
Bedrick said about $45,000 was raised by the walkers and their supporters, though she hopes that figure will grow to $50,000 to $52,000 with late donations. Proceeds from the walk benefited the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Assocation.
Heart disease survivor Linda Poorman and stroke survivor John Miller, both of Bellefonte, served as the Heart and Stroke Heroes and led the walk.
