Field & Stream set for grand opening in Altoona

Chris Woodward & Shindiggin will perform, and bass fisherman Zell Rowland, “Duck Dynasty” star Jep Robertson and former Pittsburgh Pirate Doug Drabek will all be part of grand-opening events at the Field & Stream store in Altoona this weekend.

Field & Stream, a specialty store for hunting, fishing, camping and other outdoor activities, is a subsidiary of Dick’s Sporting Goods. The Altoona store, at 141 Sierra Drive, is one of four opening across the region this weekend. Six stores have opened since August 2013.

“It’s going to be a really great time,” Field & Stream general merchandise manager Jack Barnes, said. “It’s more than a grand opening. It’s a festive event with something to do for everyone that comes.”

The three-day grand opening events include giveaways, demonstrations and contests such as a Hunt, Pitch and Cast Youth Challenge on Sunday.

Barnes said the 50,000-square-foot Altoona store will employ about 100 people.
