The Veterans Assistance Fund of Centre County will host a 5K run at 1 p.m. Sunday starting at the Bellefonte Area Middle School, fund treasurer Walter Mayes told the Centre County Board of Commissioners.
Participation costs $20 per runner, Mayes said. All proceeds will go into the fund.
The assistance fund started in the spring of 2011, he said, providing assistance to any needy Centre County veteran or widow or widower of a veteran.
Since the end of October 2011, the fund has given out about $55,000 to more than 60 veterans, mainly for housing and utilities.
“It’s a great program for the county,” county Veterans Affairs Director Brian Querry said, “and it’s a great tool for (the VA) to help the veterans.”
