ClearWater Conservancy purchases 281 acres for state forest

ClearWater Conservancy has completed the purchase of 281 acres on Tussey Mountain and transferred the land to public ownership as part of Rothrock State Forest, according to ClearWater.

The land, which is in Harris and Ferguson townships, was purchased Oct. 29 from Richard and Bernadette Hale. Since 2007, ClearWater has added 928 acres to Rothrock.

“ClearWater Conservancy is delighted to acquire the properties and transfer ownership to Rothrock State Forest,” ClearWater President Steve Miller said. “Land conservation activities like this are at the core of ClearWater’s mission of conserving the special, beautiful, natural places that give our region its character.”

The land will cared for by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Bureau of Forestry, ClearWater said.
