A small wildfire broke out Monday in Benner Township, sending smoke rising near Interstate 99, but firefighters were able to extinguish it quickly.
Rusty Schreiner, fire administrator with the Alpha Fire Company, said the property owner’s “inattentive burning of leaves” in the middle of a field caused the fire off Shiloh Road next to the I-99 interchange, leadto the scorching of about a quarter acre.
When the call came in at 2:07 p.m., the company sent a pickup sized special response unit, getting to the fire in about 8 minutes, Schreiner said.
“It was contained immediately upon arrival,” he said, adding that it took about 15 minutes before the flames were completely out.
No structures were damaged, Schreiner said.
